The Benefits of and ASE CERTIFIED auto service facility

According to the latest statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau there are 645,520 CPAs, 954,000 doctors, and 1,128729 lawyers as of 2012.  Considering that most households own one, maybe two vehicles, it comes to me as a surprise that there are only 350,000 ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Certified auto technicians.

I’ve held the Advanced Engine Performance Technician certification uninterrupted for over 20 years, and recently renewed my certification with ASE as a Master Technician.  When you visit L&M Automotive you’ll notice that we prominently display the ASE Certification sign, and perhaps you’re wondering how this can be of benefit to me.

Why Use ASE-Certified Auto Technicians?
Consumers benefit from ASE’s certification program because it takes much of the guesswork out of finding a competent technician.

Years ago, any auto mechanic would do; after all, cars were simpler, less complex.  But with today’s high-tech vehicles, family sedans, sports coupes, rugged SUVs, and powerful pick-ups the margin for error is less.  Mistakes can be costlier. It makes good financial sense to protect your automotive investment through regular periodic maintenance and service performed by certified professionals.

Because ASE’s program is voluntary, technicians who have taken the time and expense to earn ASE certification can be counted on to have a strong sense of pride in accomplishment and professionalism which should be good news for consumers. Moreover, prior to taking ASE exams, many technicians attend training classes or study after work. The time they spend sharpening their skills should be advantageous to consumers as well.

How Does ASE Certification Work?
Tens of thousands of candidates sit for ASE exams each year. These exams are developed by representatives from the service and repair industry, vocational educators, working technicians, and ASE’s own in-house technical specialists. The exams stress real-world diagnostic and repair problems, not theory.

Mechanics who pass at least one exam and fulfill the hands-on work experience requirement earn the title of ASE-Certified Automobile Technician, while those who pass all eight auto exams earn Master Auto Technician status. Nor is ASE certification for life; technicians must recertify every five years in order to keep current with changing technology and to remain ASE certified.

So, when you visit L&M Automotive and/or refer your family or friends, you count of dedicated professionals to fix your vehicle and get you back on the
road. . .fast!

Thinking of Buying a Used Car?...We can help with that!

L&M Automotive now offers complimentary used vehicle inspections.  We can’t stress enough how important this is. Even if the vehicle comes with a warranty from the seller, it never hurts to have the vehicle inspected by one of our certified technicians to make sure you get off on the right foot.  Too often we have seen vehicles with issues such as leaks, engine performance issues or other mechanical problems.  Identifying these problems can become a bargaining chip that may help you negotiate a better price on the vehicle.  Also, it is the seller’s responsibility to get the vehicle a smog certificate, at this can be a major road block.  On several occasions we have seen a buyer bring us a vehicle that they have purchased without passing smog. The cost to repair the vehicle can be very expensive.  In some cases expenses can be more than the purchase price of the vehicle. In one case a vehicle actually had the wrong engine in the car and

required replacing the engine, fuel system, wiring harness and computer system! So, please have us perform a vehicle inspection  before you buy.
